In this interactive art piece, spectators are allowed to build ephemeral landscapes depending on their motions and gestures in front of a screen. This work suggested a performance experience, where the spectator is the one who perform the artwork and the artist the one who provide the environment.
Construction and deconstruction of these landscapes emerge from the transformation of the spectator’s movements, gestures, position and weather conditions of the city where he is located. All these variables rebound in the order and size of different drawings that are provided by the artist. These images are digitized ink drawings, which refer to organic forms such as those that can be found in landscapes, i.e. tree structures, foliage, land and weather elements. As a result of user’s performance, a unique landscape is created.
Once the landscape is built up with these drawings, depending on the first user’s performance, the second interaction is activated. It consists in controlling the weather of the city where the user is. By using a weather API, different particle animations controlled by temperature, wind direction and wind speed of the place were generated.
Finally, users would be able to interact with these animations using a set of gestures that are already detected by the piece. Paisaje, Landscape, Paysage, reflects about contemplation and creation of non-existent landscapes that are emphasized for the unexpected result. The elements with which the user interacts are generated randomly; therefore a different creative act is expected because the user’s movements take meaning at the moment of doing the gestures that are necessary to transform the artwork.
By making interactive artworks, I’m looking for building a bridge between technology and the artistic practice. However in this particular case, I’m appealing to the art’s playful sense. Therefore, the piece is giving the tools to the user to play, to build and to experiment with his body.
